Softer vs footage-based AI video tools
Most AI video generators build a video out of footage: stock clips, generated scenes, sometimes an avatar. That works for many kinds of content. For a software product, the viewer wants to see the software. Here is how the two approaches differ.
Updated
Two ways to make a video from a prompt
Footage-based tools such as Invideo AI and Pictory turn a prompt, script or blog post into a video by matching each line to stock footage from large libraries, or by generating clips with video models. You get voiceover, music and subtitles on top.
Softer animates the video as code. Your interface is rebuilt as motion graphics, charts draw with the numbers you give it, and type moves in your brand's fonts. Nothing is stock and nothing is generated footage, so what's on screen is exactly what the script says.

Be fair: what these tools do well
- Invideo AI edits by text command too: its Magic Box accepts instructions like "delete scene 3" or "change the voiceover accent", and every plan includes a timeline editor. It is quick and inexpensive for social and YouTube content where B-roll works.
- Pictory is strong at repurposing: turning blog posts and long recordings into short clips, with large Getty and Storyblocks libraries and auto-captions.
- Both cover many languages and voices, and both are cheaper per minute for general content than a per-video product.
Why footage is a weak fit for software
Stock libraries have plenty of people smiling at laptops and very little of your product. Generated clips can look impressive, but a video model doesn't know what your dashboard looks like, and on-screen text and numbers are easy to get wrong. For a launch or feature video, the most convincing thing you can show is the product working: the button, the result, the chart moving. That is what Softer is built to animate.
What "edit" means in each
In footage-based tools, an edit usually swaps a clip, changes a line of script or regenerates a scene; regenerations typically consume credits. In Softer, the whole video is a program. You can ask for changes to the words, the voice, the pacing, the layout of a scene, the chart's numbers or the colours, and Softer changes the code and re-renders. On paid plans, every edit inside a video is included.

Questions
Does Softer use stock footage or AI-generated video?
No. Every Softer video is animated as code: interface, charts, type and motion graphics. There is no stock footage and no generated footage.
Is Invideo AI's Magic Box the same as editing by conversation?
It's close. Magic Box takes text commands to edit scenes, voice and music. The difference is what is being edited: Invideo edits a montage of stock and generated clips; Softer edits code-animated visuals of your product, down to layout, numbers and colours.
Which is cheaper?
For general social content, footage-based tools usually cost less per minute. For product videos, Softer costs $8 to $10 per finished video on paid plans, with edits inside each video included.
