Industry: developer tools

Developer tool videos with real code, terminals and zero fluff

Developers skip anything that smells like marketing. They will watch twenty seconds that show the command, the output and why it matters. Softer designs that video from one sentence: real code, typeset properly, animated at the pace of someone who actually uses the tool.

Updated

Stackpoint · Technical, fast, exact

Stackpoint is an invented brand (preview environments for every pull request) used to show how Softer treats this industry. The frame is a placeholder until the sample video is ready.

  • Terminal #0D1117
  • Surface #161B22
  • Violet #A78BFA
  • Text #E6EDF3
Example brief
“A 25-second vertical teaser for Stackpoint's preview environments, for developers.”
Type
Monospace, set tight. Clean sans; code in mono.
Motion
Commands that type out, diffs that highlight, logs that stream
Sound
Minimal electronic bed; soft clicks on the cuts

Why most dev tool videos miss

A generic explainer template with smiling illustrated people reads as "not for me" to an engineer. A raw screen recording is honest but slow: the cursor hunts, the font is tiny, the interesting line scrolls past. And generated video can't be trusted with code; it produces text that looks like code and doesn't compile. Developers notice.

What a Softer developer tool video looks like

Softer's agent designs each video from your brand kit and your audience. For a developer brand like Stackpoint, the invented example above, that means:

  • Look: a dark, editor-like palette from your brand kit, with your accent used for syntax highlights and the one line that matters.
  • Type: code and commands set as real monospace text, large enough to read on a phone, with your brand's sans for everything else.
  • Motion: commands that type out, logs that stream, diffs that highlight the change and a preview URL that lands on cue.
  • Sound: a minimal electronic bed with optional soft clicks on the cuts, under a relaxed, matter-of-fact voiceover recorded as one continuous read.
  • Pacing: one idea per beat and no filler, because the audience will skip the second it gets vague.

Code that reads exactly as written

Every frame is animated as code, so the code on screen is text, not an image of text. Paste the snippet or command into your brief, or upload the docs page it comes from, and it appears exactly as written. If it changes: "the flag is now --preview, not --pr" and Softer updates the frame, the voiceover and the captions together.

Ship a video with every release

Once one changelog video looks right, you don't start from zero. Reuse it: "same format, now announcing monorepo support". The pacing, voice, music and layout carry over, the content changes, and the original stays intact. Export a 1080p MP4 for the changelog, the README or a launch post.

Questions

Can the video show our real code and CLI?

Yes. Paste the snippet or command into your brief, or upload the page it comes from. It is typeset as text, so it reads exactly as written.

Can I make a short vertical video for social?

Yes. Choose 9:16 and a length from 15 seconds up, or Reuse a landscape video as a vertical cut with one sentence.

Does it use screen recordings?

No. Your interface and terminal are rebuilt as motion graphics from your brand kit and the script, which keeps text sharp and the pace deliberate.
