Softer vs HeyGen

HeyGen and Softer both let you make a video from a brief and refine it by chatting. The difference is what ends up on screen: HeyGen generates avatars and footage, Softer animates your actual product.

Both edit by conversation. Here's what differs

HeyGen's Video Agent supports chat edits per scene, such as changing one scene's background while leaving the others as they are. That is a real capability and it works well. Softer also edits by conversation, but what it edits is code: the layout of a scene, the timing of a chart, the wording of a caption, the colour of a highlight. Because nothing is generated footage, a change is a precise edit to the code, not a re-roll of the scene.

Generated footage vs your product

Generative video is impressive for mood and people, but a video model has never seen your dashboard. For a SaaS product, the details viewers check are the interface, the feature name and the numbers. Softer builds those from your screenshots, uploads and brand kit, and animates them precisely.

Translation, fairly compared

HeyGen's translation with lip-sync across 175+ languages is one of its best features, and for a presenter video it is the right tool. Softer has no presenter to lip-sync. Instead, Reuse branches the whole video: "Reuse in Japanese" produces a new version with a Japanese script, voiceover and captions, and the original is untouched. The same sentence pattern makes audience, voice and format variants.

Predictable pricing

HeyGen prices by credits (Creator $29/month for 600; Pro $49/month for 1,000; Business from $149/month), so the cost of a video depends on its length and which engines it uses. Softer prices by the finished video: $10 each on Starter, $8 on Volume, with every edit inside a video included. See HeyGen's pricing page for current numbers.

Questions

Can HeyGen edit videos by chat?

Yes. HeyGen's Video Agent supports per-scene edits by prompt. Softer also edits by conversation; the difference is that Softer's videos are code-animated product visuals rather than avatars and generated footage.

Does Softer do lip-synced translation?

No. Softer has no on-screen presenter. It makes language versions with Reuse, which branches a new video with a translated script, voiceover and captions.

Which is better for a SaaS feature video?

If the video must show your real interface accurately and on brand, Softer. If it's presenter-led or a UGC-style ad, HeyGen.
